The inaugural Sandgate Film Gala, featuring mostly short films from 2017 Heart of Gold Film Festival, will be held in the Historic Sandgate Town Hall on 24 March 2018. The festival will capture the heyday of when going to the cinema was a special event. Guests are encouraged to step back in time and come dressed in the attire of the 1920's–50's to get into the spirit of a bygone era.
The family session and Gala Night session will feature 2017 Heart of Gold Film Festival short films including "Catastrophe" at a simple 2 minutes in length. The "Our History" session will take a Brisbane-centric look at early cinema and early Brisbane. Screenings will run from the afternoon of the 24th.
The Sandgate Historical Society will also be opening an exhibition called the "Old Theatres of Sandgate" in conjunction with the Sandgate Film Gala to recognise the cinemas of the past.
Funds raised from the Gala will support Sandbag, a local charity organisation that supports the Sandgate community. Sandbag is a community centre and a hub that has an immersive and inclusive function in the community. They provide accessible community spaces for activities and programs, and service support in the areas of Domestic Violence, Disability, Homelessness and Employment.
Get nostalgic and get along to the Sandgate Film Gala for a night of fashion, film and fun.
