My Saturdays usually start with work followed by laundry and vacuuming but this Saturday I was blessed with a day off and glorious sunshine to boot. We decided to make the most of it and head to Caloundra for a stroll on the beach and breakfast in one of the esplanade cafes.
Coffee Club is our usual spot but we thought we'd try somewhere new and found ourselves in the Sandbar Cafe, lured in by the promise of the best coffee on the coast, the Sandbar smile and friendly service.
The Sandbar Cafe is located at 26 The Esplanade, Caloundra and can be contacted on (07) 5491 0800, should you like to make a booking. They are open from 7am most mornings and state late as their closing time (except for Mondays when they close at 5pm). The Sandbar Cafe also offers a kiosk section that is open from 10:30am and has extended hours during the holidays. The Sandbar Cafe website offers more information about their opening hours, function packages and menu.
There were lots of different seats to choose from. You could sit inside in a lounge style or at traditional tables. Although there was a great atmosphere inside, we decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views of Bribie Island. Our waiter was the owner and he was friendly and efficient. Our orders were taken promptly and the food arrived quickly.
After two coffees I can confirm that it is definitely in the running for the best on the coast. The cappuccino lacked the common mountain of froth but I think it tasted much better this way. After our coffees, we both had breakfast – the ham and cheese croissant for me and scrambled eggs for my partner - and our bill was still under $35 and the food was good.
We put off returning to the house work for as long as possible but eventually it was time to go. We would like to return to the Sandbar Cafe and try their dinner menu along with a few wines when it gets a bit warmer.
