More and more places are opening up in the Wyndham area which means that there are less and less reasons for me to cross the infamous Westgate Bridge. The latest to open is
The or as the cool kids are calling it, the SL Hotel.
At the entrance you are greeted with two large palm trees which makes you think you have ventured out somewhere tropical but on second look you find yourself still in Point Cook. Once inside there are 5 decisions to be made, are you here for the pokies, tapas, the piano bar, the buffet or the sports bar?
They say variety is the spice of life so the SL Hotel is full of spice and has cleverly catered for the needs of families, seniors, the sports better, the food appreciator, the music lover, young or old there is something here for everyone.
The buffet is opened 7 days a week with different opening times for different days/nights and even more confusing is the pricing that is different for each different session you attend. All adult prices vary under $30. For specifics on buffet pricing, check out the website under
buffet
The tapas bar is open 6:00pm to 8:30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays and 6:00pm to 9:00pm Fridays and Saturdays. With a small one pager of Tapas, the food is delicious and has seen me go back for more on several occasions. For the area that is pretty small for Tapas dining, I was quite surprised at how slow the service was. The waitress was apologetic and very nice but it did take some time to get a table even after I had booked and then again to order drinks and our food.
The piano bar unfortunately is only open on Fridays from 5pm to late and Saturday 6pm to late. It's a great area for catching up with friends over a cocktail or two and as the night rolls in, to listen to some sort of live performance. On Saturday I was lucky enough to hear an acoustic performance from European artists Matty and Julia. The duo was easy listening and sung quite a few songs I was able to sing and bop along to.
The sports bar is open 7 days a week, 11am to late Sunday to Friday and 10am to late on Saturdays. The bar is equipped with a pool table, TAB, lots of screens showing all the latest sports action, a bar menu for a casual bite from 11am to late and on occasions are setup for poker. Check out
what's on at the sports bar to see the latest in pool and poker competitions.
And finally the pokies, whist I can't say I'm a huge fan, I do think the bar has not only done well to cater for varied types of people but have also managed to really segregate each area so if your intention is to go to the piano bar and piano bar only then you head straight there as is the same for all other areas of the Hotel.
