In the fast paced world we live, a place of refuge is what everyone needs. And that is what The Sanctuary at Hove offers - a peaceful, comfortable place to escape our demanding lives. Time out to reflect, relax and revive.
The Sanctuary at Hove is a massage clinic and this is what I find most appealing. It is not a day spa with overpriced treatments. Nor is it a beauty salon that will attempt to upgrade my treatment with a pedicure or the like. It is not even a hectic physiotherapy or chiropractic centre.
It is a business dedicated wholly and solely to massage therapy. For this reason, I felt safe and secure knowing I was in the hands of experts.
Booking an appointment on the phone was a quick and easy process. With extended opening hours, five therapists and two treatment rooms, appointments are quite readily available. I was pleased to be able to get an appointment the very next day, around the time I was hoping for, and was even offered a ten dollar discount for my first visit.
The Sanctuary at Hove is located on Brighton Road. Unless you know what you are looking for you'll probably drive past it the first time. It is an unassuming building, with little signage to indicate its presence, that is somewhat concealed by a larger building, trees and parked cars. Along with street parking, there are a couple of car parks available at the front of the clinic and more around the back.
Being located on busy Brighton Road is a great advantage (in terms of visibility and accessibility) but also a major challenge because of the road noise. To begin with this was more than a little distracting. However, drowning it out with the gentle harmonies of relaxation music eventually proved effective and the sounds of traffic rushing by became almost rhythmical and blended into the music.
Stepping into the massage clinic, your sense of smell is initially greeted by the beautiful aromas of candles and essential oils that complement the calming soft green colour scheme.
Next you will be greeted at the front desk by an employee- most likely to be your massage therapist. It is now you'll be asked to have a seat in the waiting area and complete the obligatory paperwork. Whilst being aesthetically pleasing, the oversized ottomans are neither comfortable nor practical for this purpose. Thankfully though this task doesn't take long and soon after you will be guided to the treatment room.
The staff present a picture of health and athleticism in their uniform of running shoes and polo shirts. It is reassuring to see framed photographs in the waiting room of each employee with a career biography and list of qualifications.
Electric treatment tables are an impressive feature as the therapist is easily able to adjust the table to achieve optimal results. The heated table enhanced the benefits of the massage by soothing tight muscles and felt particularly good on my back.
Muscular tension was decreased through firm but appropriate pressure. I left feeling relaxed yet revitalised with just the right amount of sore the next day as a reminder of the treatment and to make my follow up appointment.
