Life is about the journey - some roads are not always what they seem but you sure learn a great deal from them!
SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) is known for their research, rescue and rehabilitation of sea birds. Notably one can add education, training and chick rearing to that list and they play a pivotal part in saving many endangered sea birds.
On 8 October, you can witness the release of rehabilitated penguins followed with a celebration at the Penguin Festival at the Simon's Town Navy Sports Field. Watching the release of the penguins and entry to the festival is free.
\What to expect on the day?
With a focus on fun, there will be a kid's activities such as a chance to meet a real ambassador African penguin, a mini-soccer tournament, a puppet show, mini rides, an inflatable obstacle course and many other fun activities. Tickets to all day activities for kids is R100.00.
For the adults, there will be craft beer, wine tasting, a special cooking demonstration by a SASSI Braai Ambassador. Of course, one can also expect a variety of food trucks on the day.
Alarmingly only 2% of the penguin population remains in the wild today, therefore your effort to be part of this day would make a tremendous impact! With all the money raised going to SANCCOB and their excellent work in preserving and saving sea birds, this is one of those events where you know everything you invest in will go towards a great cause.
SANCCOB Penguin Festival starts at 10am and finishes at 4 pm.
