Thaiday on my mind at Suncorp Stadium
You don't have to be a Brisbane Broncos fan to be familiar with the name Sam Thaiday. After all, through the sheer strength of his personality Thaiday has become a familiar figure around Brisbane, and Queensland at large.
Slammin' Sam Thaiday has spent his entire football career with the Broncos, commencing in 2003, and progressing through the ranks to play State of Origin, Anzac Tests against New Zealand, and as an Australian international. His skill on the field and as a team player led to Sam being named in the Indigenous Australian Rugby League Team of the Century.
Sam presents on a Saturday morning radio program, appropriately titled, Thank God It's Thaiday, and appears in numerous television advertisements, always with a big, cheeky grin. He has also given much of his time raising money for charity, including the Leukaemia Foundation and the Starlight Children's Foundation, as well as promoting his Indigenous heritage.
Sam Thaiday has fans who don't even follow the footy.
On Sunday, September 2nd, Sam will be playing his last Broncos home game for the season, at Suncorp Season. The Club will be honouring him on the day with a Send Off Sam Together promotion which includes a Reserved seat for the match and an exclusive Sam Thaiday cap.
I'm a Dragons supporter. Have been for fifty plus years, though I already have tickets for this event. Why? For respect for a player who has brought so much to the game, and because it promises to be a great day, despite the Broncos playing against the dreaded enemy, Manly.
My daughter dragged me along to Shane Webke's farewell game some ten years ago. I'm looking forward to something of the same spirit this time around.
Tickets start at $45.00 and are available by contacting 1300 46 27 66. For further details email firstname.lastname@example.org.
