The term 'unique brand of comedy' is often used to describe the schtick of many comedians but rarely does it fit in such a way as it does with Sam Simmons. Year after year, he delivers his quirky, pseudo-random humor to great acclaim and plenty of awards. Deservedly so.
[ADVERT]Following on from his debut TV program (ABC's Problems with Dave Quirk and Ronny Chieng among others), Sam has written a wonderful show based upon his popular Triple J premise Shitty Trivia. His questions make little sense to the uninitiated but are everything his fans hope for - non sequiturs, puns, strange shoes and ham, on not just his face but the face of an audience member. In the case of the show I was attending, that person was me.
His show is not for the faint of heart or those expecting something straight forward. That said, if you have loved him on Triple J, his previous stand up or Problems then this is the show for you.
See Sam Simmons: Shitty Trivia until April 21st at the Hi-Fi. Tickets available online. Book ahead because his show is always packed. Come for a drink but stay for a great show.
