2020 has been a difficult year for many, if not all of us. However, there's always someone worse off. A financially difficult year is even more so for those already experiencing hardship. What better time to appeal than at Christmas time, to give back, this Christmas.
While some of us are thinking of spending on gifts, there are others who are literally bereft of food and the basics. In the spirit fo Christmas, of giving back, of generosity, head to the Salvation Army who do so much for others, and help them leave no one in need this Christmas.
Choose your gift; there's a range of ideas to relieve suffering in our community. Explore Wishes gifts and add them to your shopping card. Through your generosity and kindness, your life-changing gift will be delivered in practical assistance to vulnerable people in our community. Your Wishes Gift will be used to provide people in need something they are wishing for this Christmas. And for every gift you choose, show your loved ones and friends the wonderful meaning of their Christmas gift this year with a unique Wishes Card.
Most of us take it for granted, but there are families all over Australia who go without a traditional Christmas lunch. Think of those who are homeless; a mother and child who have escaped family violence, and so on. Your gift will give them a warm and welcoming seat at the table in a Salvos shelter for a joyous Christmas meal. These are but a couple of examples. You'll find a variety of gifts on the website that gives others and yourself a warm fuzzy feeling for Christmas.
The Salvos are a great team to get behind with their proven body of work in the community. Without you, they cannot deliver the help our community needs.
If you're off shopping in Kmart, don't forget the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal which doesn't conclude till 24 December 2020. Choose a practical gift that'll go beyond Christmas time and leave it under the Wishing Tree in-store at Kmart. Clicking on the Wishing Tree Logo on the self-serve checkout screen will add to a transaction or drop a gold coin into a collection box at the registers. Yet another way to help; donate online by scanning a Wishing Tree QR code that will be found in-store at Kmart.
You can also simply donate online. There's an everyday practical way you can help the Salvos, you may not have realised. Every cent helps. It's good for you, good for them, and good for the planet. Don't throw out your empty plastic bottle or aluminium cans. Keep them, store them and recycle them - they can change lives! The Salvos have teamed up with myTOMRA Australia so you can help them help Australians in need by donating your 10c refund.
Every single bottle counts. To help put things in perspective, 60 drink containers helps provide a hygiene kit to someone in need and 80 would help pay for a ticket on public transport to get someone unemployed to a job interview. 150 used bottles or cans provide a toiletry pack for someone fleeing domestic violence.
