A simple Facebook challenge has led to one dog-friendly café allowing pooches on the furniture.

Well, on the walls, anyway. From April 25, dogs of all descriptions will be welcomed inside the Pickled Fig Café near South Fremantle's dog beach. The pooches are from the new collection of playful canine artworks by Hangdog, the creation of Fremantle artist Megan Anderson.

The exhibition, called Salty Dogs, marks the culmination of a challenge on Hangdog's Facebook page, which saw Megan paint and post a dog a day for 30 days.

Some were paintings, some were scrawled in ink on napkins, one was rendered on a café chalk board. The best of those pieces feature in the exhibition.

Megan frequents dog beaches and hound-proud alfresco cafés from Swanbourne to Cockburn for inspiration.
"My artworks aren't portraits as such, they're more fun and light hearted," says Megan. "I'm especially drawn to dogs that are ungainly in some way, have exaggerated features, or are just dripping with character.
"That's most dogs, let's face it. A lot of people who see my paintings recognise their dog or a dog of their acquaintance in the work. I love that that they make people smile."

This is the second solo exhibition for Hangdog, following a sell-out exhibition last April at Early Work gallery in South Fremantle.
