I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Come and Get a Bowl of Poke
Saltie. has only been opened for three weeks but there is already a group of regulars attracted by the great coffee and delicious food. Located close to Central station and Prince Alfred Park, the cafe is very small and mainly operated as a takeaway, but there are some stools at the counter if you want to eat in.
The owner, Yas, is passionate about food and coffee and has an easy friendly manner with his customers. The menu is small but full of good value tasty options and there is a variety of tea, coffee and cold drinks. Seasonal menu changes are planned, there are fresh salads daily, cakes and muffins and a daily blackboard special.
Poke (pokay) is a Hawaiian dish that was great value at $12, it was full of fresh sashimi grade fish marinated in sesame oil, shallots and Asian sauces on fluffy brown rice. The flavours were clean and light but filling. The $12 super bowl of crispy kale, quinoa salad, avocado cream and egg was also very tasty and it was hard to choose which I preferred. Both dishes would be suitable for breakfast or lunch.
During the week they are busy catering to the local workforce and the Hey You app can be used to preorder and skip the queues. In good weather, you could get Yas to pack up a picnic to enjoy in the nearby park. All the salads and burger patties are made fresh and they are happy to adjust the food to suit personal preference and dietary requirements.
Next time we are in this part of town we will be calling in to say hello to the guys and pick up a picnic lunch.
