For the third year the Salisbury Secret Garden returns as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

SALISBURY SECRET GARDEN

This name is in fact a collective hub for all things Fringe being held at various venues in Salisbury. The main area is located at Civic Square, corner John and Church Streets, Salisbury. Here you will find food outlets, bars and lots of entertainment. The fun starts from the 18th February and will open at various times.
**
SECRET GARDEN SHOWCASE**
The program will kick off with a special evening on Thursday 18th February from 7- 9pm. Here you will have a taste of selected acts that will be happening during the Fringe events in Salisbury. Hosted by Fringe character Hans, who has produced many hit Fringe shows in past years. On this spectacular night there will be a few funnies, some cabaret, and a few surprises. Held in the lovely heritage hall, the Salisbury Institute in Wiltshire Street, this is a must-see show at only $13 a ticket.

If you miss that night Hans and Adelaide's own loveable Willsy (Anne Wills) will be doing a show together at the Institute called "Twins", with some singing and other shenanigans.

FAMILY FUN.
'An Evening in the Salisbury Secret Garden' will be on February 20th from 4pm in the recently refurbished Civic Square. Bring the family for a relaxed free night with loads of food, drinks and entertainment. There will be G rated live performances for all and activities for the kids, so take a night off and come and find out what the Secret Garden has in store for you.

A free family outdoor cinema night at Civic Square on Saturday 27th of February. Activities and plenty of food from local businesses available from 6pm with the movie, Turbo which is about an animated car, will screen from 8.30 pm. Bring your own chair or bean bag.

There are many shows and events on over the three weeks suitable for families and children. Check out the program for kids which includes multicultutral events, storytime, clown acts and youth theatre. Ticketed events are at very reasonable prices, so here is a fabulous opportunity to allow the kids to participate in the arts without hefty city theatre prices.

THE POCKET

This is a bite sized circus where you will be entertained with all the Fringe fun of the comedy circus performers only the Fringe does best. Short mini performances of 15-20 minutes per session will be held in a compact tent called "The Pocket", which is at the Civic Square location. These exciting quick shows are pay as you enter at only $5 and will be held on the following times during February;
18th and 25th at 7- 9.30pm
19 and 26th 6- 11.30 pm
20th and 27th 12noon- 9.30pm
21st and 28th 12noon- 7pm
When The Pocket is running pop up bars and food stalls will be also available, so it is an ideal hub to meet your friends and see a mini show or two.

MUSIC EVENTS
There is a bounty of music entertainment over the weeks of the Salisbury Secret Garden. There are far too many to list here, so check the Salisbury program and get your tickets online– see links below. Here are some highlights;

  • For Your Love- Sixties Rock Invasion. Remember Herman's Hermits and Lulu? This fantastic music show played in Adelaide last year to a packed house. Come dressed in 1960s clothes to win prizes and rock the night away to the Mersey beat, or sit and sing along with all the old sixties British hits we all know and love.

  • There is old time music, swing, afro beats, songs from the great shows, pop songs and classical guitar, in the way of music performances, both in daytimes and evening time slots. Some are free, while others are ticket events. In addition to music there is a host of comedy and other exciting shows. Check out the program and get your tickets now.

    I noticed that many musical events on the program have daytime slots, making this ideal for older people up North to attend a show. All good toe tapping entertainment that the oldies love. Treat your Mum and Dad to an afternoon out. The Salisbury Secret Garden program is caters to all ages and has something for all. With so much on in Salisbury this year, those who live North need not travel all the way to the city Fringe locations. We are very privileged to have such a great line-up of the artists who will be here where we live, so do go out and support this event. All of the venues are within walking distance of the Salisbury Interchange making it easy to come by train and bus.
