During History Month, St Paul's Anglican Church in Port Adelaide invites visitors to come and see this 118 year old historical building. The church was the third Church of England built in South Australia. The church, originally built of weatherboards on piles by the water, was opened for worship on 9th May 1841. In 1851, during a blustering storm, the building was washed off its piles. A new church was built on a firmer foundation and opened for worship on 14 March 1852.   Fifty years later due to weather, salt-damp, cracks and shifting sand, the church had taken its toll, so a third brick church was built in its current stately form. It was opened for worship on All Saints Day, December 1905. This building is now 118 years old, but there has been "Anglican" worship in the Port for 187 years.

So come and see this special part of South Australian history. The church will open its doors to visitors on Sunday, 21st and Sunday 28th May 2023 from 10.00am to 3.00pm. If you would like to go on a guided tour, it will be held from 2pm to 4pm on both days. The event is free, however, donations will be appreciated. Bookings are not required.

St Paul's Anglican Church is located at 1 Church Place, Port Adelaide. For more information on the event, see the History Festival website .
