To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sailor Moon, it was announced in 2017 through Sailor Moon's official Japanese website that a new and updated Sailor Moon musical would be coming to the stage in Japan in 2018. Sailor Moon Musicals are live theatre productions based off Sailor Moon.
The series started in 1993 and ran until 2005. During that time there were 31 different Sailor Moon Musicals, over 800 performances, DVD releases and over 20 music CDs were released.
The series was brought back in 2013 for Sailor Moon's 20th anniversary celebration. The Sailor Moon Musicals generally follow the basic plot from the anime and manga, but sometimes expand into original plotlines.
The new Sailor Moon Musical is called "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Musical-Le Mouvement Final" which is French for "The Final Movement." The show follows the Stars arc of the Sailor Moon manga.
The show stars Hotaru Nomoto as Sailor Moon, Yume Takeuchi as Sailor Mercury, Karen Kobayashi as Sailor Mars, Kaede as Sailor Jupiter, Rimo Hasegawa as Sailor Venus, Yuuga Yamato as Tuxedo Mask and Coco Isuzu as Sailor Galaxia.
As a special treat for Sailor Moon fans, Event Cinemas will be screening "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: the Musical" at their Morley and Innaloo cinemas for one night only on Thursday, April 5 at 6.30pm.
