Letís all set sail south for the summer
The Redland Museum is once again hosting their annual Australia Day play with performances commencing from January 25th. The play, Sailing South, written by Judith Pryor, has been called "a comedy romp through the high seas".
This should be right up their alley for the team from Mates Theatre Genesis, a local community theatre group who have been presenting plays with an Australian theme each year for well over a decade at the Redland Museum. I have attended many of these performances, covering such diverse topics as farm machinery, love letters, and wedding anniversaries.
These Australia Day plays are an annual fundraising event for the museum and theatrical production comes with a meal, cooked and served by museum volunteers as well as the performers, adding to the community atmosphere.
Evening shows include a two-course dinner served "under the stars" consisting of Corned Beef served with mashed potato and veggies and individual pot Apple Crumble. The ticket price for the dinner deal is $39.00 and includes entry into the museum for a browse at 6pm before seating for dinner at 6:30pm.
Evening shows are scheduled as follows: Monday, 25th January 2021 Tuesday, 26th January 2021 Saturday, 30th January 2021
Friday, 5th February 2021 Saturday, 6th February 2021
There will also be two matinee performances, during which time devonshire tea, scones served with jam and cream and tea and coffee will be served at intermission on the verandah.
Tickets for these performances cost $29.00 and are scheduled for:
Sunday, 31st January 2021
Sunday, 7th February 2021
If you are concerned about the heat - and honestly, aren't we all? - the venue is air-conditioned. Bar facilities will be available taking cash only and there will also be raffle tickets for sale.
The Redland Museum is located at 60 Smith Street, Cleveland, and there is both off-street and street parking.

These productions have always proved to be entertaining as well as a popular community event. Of course, I'll be going!
