Even if you aren't a boat owner, you may enjoy the opportunity to immerse yourself into Far North Queensland's sailing culture by attending the festival.
There will be plenty of different boats and yachts to check out from the Marlin Marina, along with several social events spread over the course of the Regatta. Bring along binoculars, sunglasses, hats and sunscreen - this is the Far North after all and the sun gets glaringly hot.
Entry participants of the Regatta will be competing for The Festival Cairns Cup, Mayor's Challenge trophy. This trophy along with other prizes will be presented at the ceremony dinner at the Salt House (one of the event sponsors) in Cairns by the Mayor, Bob Manning at the close of the Regatta.
Races start at 9am on Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th, Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th of September 2015 from the Marlin Marina so even if you can't make it on one day, there is the next. Saturday and Sunday will be the best days to go watch as all the boats in the event will be out on the water.
At the close of each day, there will be a social event, offering people the opportunity to mingle with the participants of the Regatta, and meet others involved in FNQ's sailing scene. If you are interested in testing these waters, this would be a great opportunity to meet other more experienced sailers.
