A peaceful first floor venue, away from the crowds below, Sahara is a Moroccan restaurant, located at Level 1, 301 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
Window seating, Sahara
We were lucky to be seated near the open window, on a balmy summer evening where the view is of trees and a pleasant breeze entered as we sipped on chilled sauvignon blanc.
Try to ignore the surly waitress, with attitude throughout our meal and appalling rude service, who perhaps woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day.
We ordered several items on the menu but were told 20 minutes later that most of our selections were unavailable, a first time experience!
We settled for harissa prawns ($9.50) as an entree - delicately marinated in a beautiful harissa sauce, but served cold. For mains, the spiced cous cous ($6.50) appeared with a strand of hair, an incident that would have had me leaving the venue, however given it was 9pm on a Wednesday night, we stayed. Replaced without apology, the well written description was inconsistent with the product, with barely a few pieces of fruits served on top of a dry and cold bowl of rice. We also shared the Moroccan fish masala tagine ($21), tasty but cold and overpriced for quantity and quality.
A quiet and appealing space to relax with a drink, with tempting food descriptions that may disappoint.
