Researchers at NeuRA are investigating effective stepping strategies to avoid falling after experiencing unexpected trips and slips in older adults.Eligible volunteers will attend at least two laboratory sessions in Randwick (once at baseline and again after 12 months) comprised of physical and cognitive assessments, including a balance recovery assessment. One group will also be invited back to complete a series of reactive balance training sessions, over the 12-months.[BREAK]
Who can join? [BREAK]We are looking for volunteers aged 65 years and over, who:are living independently in the communitycan walk 500 meters without a mobility aid or restinghave no diagnosed neurological diseases (e.g. Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, etc.)have no existing conditions that prevent exercise (e.g. severe pain, fatigue, exercise intolerance, heel ulcers, etc.) have not been advised by a medical practitioner against exercisehave no history of lower limb, pelvis or vertebral fracture(s) or joint replacement(s) in the past 6 months.[BREAK]
