Sadhana Kitchen is a laid-back vegan cafe on the streets of Enmore that set the scene for a little girlie brunch a couple of weekends ago. With a menu of plant-based food ticking the boxes of 'wholesome' and 'organic', it provided the nourishing soul food we needed.
One of Sadhana's philosophies is good health. They aspire to fill dishes with as much pure produce as possible, as what you feed your body plays one of the biggest roles in this. In doing this, they have three rules - ensuring seasonal picks are organic, including lots of raw foods for easy digestion, and avoiding filler material like refined sugar.
Hand-in-hand with brunch goes coffee. The variety of caffeinated drinks here are all made from organic custom blends. We could definitely taste the difference in the dirty chai, and chai lattes, with the spiciness reflecting a more authentic recipe for this Indian milk-tea base.
With a finishing touch of passionfruit, the traditional Acai Bowl ($18) was given a tropical spin. This will change over the year of course, as different seasonal fruits come into the cafe. A decadent serving came together, with a thick and creamy Acai blend, topped with banana, crunchy apple slices, and lots of Old-Spice granola - also made in-house.
Among other gorgeous dishes, we witnessed a creative interpretation of 'Eggs Benedict' ($19). 'Vegan nEGGs' made from coconut and sweet-potato impressively recreated the texture of this poultry product. With a delicious alternative to eggs down pat, Sadhana doesn't hesitate to put other brekkie classics like the 'Bacon & Egg' Roll ($18) on the menu.
Got a sweet tooth? These guys can also pull together some dairy-free frappes and sundaes for you. Chocolate, vanilla, or twisted. I'm eager to suss this treat out soon. It's great to see a variety of palates being catered for by the plant-based creations coming out of this heartfelt kitchen. I'm looking forward to the next soulful Sunday here.
