Indian classical dance is like the art of storytelling. It is like a musical dance-drama with bright colours and melodious beats. There are many forms of classical dance that originate in India and Bharatnatyam is one of most popular forms of classical dance that originates from the south of India. Rasika Dance Academy was founded in 2002. Their founder and teacher, the talented Manjula Viswanath, has choreographed and performed in many productions over the years. Rasika Dance Academy is bringing yet another production 'Sadhana-9 modes of devotion' on 19th March 2016 at the Redgum Centre,Wentworthville.

Sadhana is a dance and musical performance where the senior students of the academy along with their guru (teacher) Manjula Viswanath will be presenting a solo depicting the 9 modes of devotion. This is supported by a live orchestra, colorful costumes with a thematic story. The event is a fund raiser for a Pallative care in Thrissur (a town in the south of India), supported by Ozindcare a charity organisation run by local members in Sydney.

Rasika Dance Academy trains students from the age of 5. Students are taught the traditional Vazhvoor style of Bharatanatyam. Classical dancing as an art form in India can be traced back to 2nd century B.C. Most classical dances evolved as a temple art. The dance form involves elaborate system of postures, hand gestures, foot movements and eye movements. It is fascinating to watch young dance enthusiasts practice, learn and perform to a high calibre at such productions. Follow the academy's Facebook page to view their past productions and upcoming event details and support the talented dancers and their noble cause.
