Australia Day is a time to reflect on the past and respect that we all have a contribution to make to our country's story, so come together and celebrate the diverse and multicultural nation we have become.
A good sausage sizzle at a barbecue has become a tradition for many households and with this backyard event in Meadowbank Park, you can party with the community and get to know neighbours or faces you've passed in the street. Arrive early and be one of the first 1,500 people to get your sizzling snag free. Should you not be into sausages, then not to worry as there will be a number of food trucks onsite with something to tempt your taste buds.
With a backyard barbie, there's always fun and this one has plenty to keep the whole family entertained. There's thong throwing and free sports activities, including a cricket tournament, as well as free skate workshops for the kids.

Children can also enjoy free craft activities and free face painting. Lots of singing and dancing is on the cards too with appearances from favourites, Bananas in Pyjamas, who will be bringing a show featuring some of their much-loved songs from their TV series with some fun dance steps for all to join in.
Owl pals, Hoot and Hootabelle, will also have the kids bopping to some of their famous tunes and hopping in on the fun of the day are some giant bouncing kangaroos. Bubble lady and Spin Joy, the hula hoopists, will also entertain the kids.

Other performers include dancers from Avenue D Performance Studio, trademark harmonies from pop duo Jess & Matt who grabbed attention from their time on The X Factor and bass baritone singer Kamahl who's well known for his interpretations of love songs and ballads. He has had a long career, having recorded over 30 albums, and has now been announced by the City of Ryde as their 2023 Australia Day Ambassador.
