Ron and Hazel Russell

Hazel received a BA in Art History from McMaster University, Ontario, and subsequently studied with one of the UK's leading watercolour artists, Ken Messer.

After emigrating to Australia in 1981, Hazel spent two years with the St Ives Group where she developed her pastel technique, responding particularly to pastel's vibrancy and direct response to touch.

Heavily influenced by Impressionism, her brilliantly coloured gardens, landscapes, poppyfields, vineyards, irises and sunflowers are now painted in acrylic on canvas.

Ron followed a different path - after completing an apprenticeship he became an Electrician, then an Electrical Draftsman and Electrical Engineer before founding his own highly successful company Technician International with offices throughout Australia, Canada and the UK.

Ron Russell

For almost thirty years he travelled throughout the world, never losing his lifelong passion for the history and practice of art, painting wherever possible.

During this time he enrolled as a mature student at University, receiving his Hons BA and MA in Art History, following which he won a prestigious Arts Council Scholarship to Oxford University.

After graduating from Oxford, Ron devoted himself to full-time painting. His watercolours, oils and acrylics are admired in dozens of homes in WA as well as the UK, US, Canada and Asia.

Ron and Hazel have travelled many times throughout Europe, living and painting in Tuscany, Provence and Spain.

Since settling in Perth in 1994 they have jointly held more than twenty exhibitions and have had work hung in many of WA's leading art galleries, including the Yallingup Galleries and Monet Gallery.

A selection of Ron and Hazel's Paintings with Panache will be on display at Darlington Gallery throughout April.
