If you are sick of big chain motels and want to stay somewhere with character and convenience book into The Russell . In the heart of the historic Rocks, across from the Museum of Contemporary Art and the cruise ship terminal, a wealth of entertainment is in easy reach. Within five minutes walk, you will come upon Circular Quay and just a bit further afield is the Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, theatres and several public transport options.

The land and buildings occupied by The Russell have had a long and interesting history . All of the staff we encountered during our stay were very personable and happy to discuss the history of the hotel and the area, you could see that they were very proud of their workplace. They also had a wealth of knowledge about local activities and attractions.

The hotel consists of 30 unique rooms that vary in amenities, size, outlook and decor. All of the rooms and common areas are spotlessly clean, sensitively decorated and exude a feeling of homeliness and comfort. Our ensuite room was large with a comfortable King sized bed and had all of the usual amenities including plenty of wardrobe space, bathrobes, ironing facilities and free Wi-Fi.

There are many bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants in the area and guests receive a discount at The Push and Sydney's oldest licensed establishment the adjacent The Fortune Of War hotel.

Breakfast is complimentary and available downstairs in the Push Bar from 7am. It is a continental buffet of fresh fruit salad, cereals, yoghurt, toast, hard boiled eggs, pastries, tea, coffee and fruit juice. Barista coffee is made to order for an extra charge.

As well as the reception area where plenty of tourist information is available there is a relaxing sitting room containing a library, balcony overlooking George Street and a computer for guest use. The private rooftop terrace garden is for the use of guests and provides a lovely peaceful vantage point. Unfortunately, our stay was not long enough for us to fully appreciate these areas but they were beautifully decorated and very welcoming spaces.

Who needs to stay at a Hyatt, Hilton or Sofitel when you can feel at home at The Russell.
