Make sure you take your runners next time you visit Lorne. It's not just about the spectacular beaches or long hilly road rides. Lorne has some great running tracks. So next time your partner goes for a surf or jumps on a bike for a 2 hour ride, go for a jog! I did and mapped out a nice safe 6km run. The beauty of this is you can opt out any time you like and you won't be far from your base.

Start your run near the Lorne Surf Club . That is where I started my run each day and as you can see by the sunrise, a spectacular spot.

Head towards the pier. It is an easy run with some small short hills. Nothing to worry about.

To the pier is approximately 1.2km so running there and back to your starting position is just under 2.5km. When you get to the pier, don't be tempted to stop in for a coffee at the Lorne Pier Restaurant - very tempting.

To run the additional 3.5kms, head towards the boardwalk past the grassed playing area and keep running.

You will run across a white suspension bridge, then turn right and jog up the hill. Follow the pathway until you get to a very large pine tree and two picnic tables. You will turn around when you get to the picnic tables - see photo below.

Now jog back. Take your time and take in the sights. The beach is in your sightline most of the way. There is a small section of bushland as you can see.

Now you're back. Get your breath back, stretch and head to one of many cafes in the main street for a well-deserved coffee.
