You are in good company at The Running Company

The moment you walk in the door, you have the feeling that it is going to be a good experience.

On my first visit, to buy a pair of walking shoes, they were busy, but I was greeted with a friendly 'hello' from the nearest staff member, invited to take a seat and they would be with me shortly.

It's a spacious shop.

During my short wait, I noticed that they only sold running and walking shoes and associated accessories, such as clothing, socks, caps and jackets.

One wall was covered in shelves, displaying the huge range and colours of running shoes available.

Huge range.

The range of clothing was extensive, which would make you feel like a champion runner, even if you were at the rear of a marathon run!

Closer inspection revealed sunglasses and all sorts of smaller accessories. A particularly attractive item was a range of lightweight backpacks with drink holders.

My shoe buying experience started with a foot measurement with a Brannock Device, which measures your foot length and width. I was surprised to find one foot was slightly longer than the other. I was asked to walk shoeless to observe my gait before being offered two pairs to suit my needs. I chose the first offering as they fitted perfectly and a quick walk confirmed their comfort.

There were two treadmills in the shop, not for exercise, but for the staff to observe a customer's gait while walking and running to supply them with a fit perfect for their running style.

The Running Company franchise in Lilydale is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Steve and Bec.

Steve and Bec have competed in many marathons, half-marathons, and fun runs or just runs. Their shop is almost wallpapered with their competition numbers from those runs. Many of their participating medals were also on display.

My experience on my walking shoe buying expedition was enjoyable and resulted in a perfect fit. My previous experience was looking at rows of shoes, looking for the right size and finding somewhere to try them on. It was nice to get good advice and assistance.

I'm not surprised you are a customer there Neil, no doubt you wear your walking shoes out rather quickly.
