According to
Channel 7 , Rundle Mall's 2017 Christmas displays are facing criticism from both shoppers and mall retailers. It's not the first time that news outlets have reported disappointment about the Mall's Christmas cheer, with complaints almost being part of the Christmas tradition.
The displays have a similar approach to last year's set up. Clusters of real pine trees dot the mall, 'joy' and 'peace' are both in abundance, and the present shaped cages are back even though they look like they could be used to detain children that make their way onto Santa's naughty list. Alongside the real pines are an assortment of wooden and plastic Christmas trees that have the kind of minimalistic charm straight from a kikki.K catalogue.
Compared to last year, there is something missing. The red and gold bunting that crisscrossed along the mall is gone and there aren't any baubles hanging on any of the trees. Depending on where you stand along the mall, it's pretty easy to forget they've decorated at all. It seems like the strip might become a bit more magical at night, when the fairy lights and trees will all be twinkling, but when the sun sets at around 8:30pm it doesn't leave much time to enjoy them.
If you've been for a wander down the mall, how do you rate the Christmas decorations? Do you think they're missing cheer, or has complaining overtaken carolling as a Christmas pastime?
Do you have a favourite memory of decorations down the mall?
