A stay at home Mum who doesn't stay at home much; too many exciting things to be discovering in this city...
Reach for your Runners
Run Melbourne is back! This epic fun run returns to our city streets on Sunday 28th July for it's twelfth consecutive year. Not only is it a great way to burn some energy, it's a huge fundraiser too. Did you know that since 2008, Run Melbourne participants have collectively raised over $16.5 million for more than 400 charities – that's quite something.
So what can you expect this year? There are several different options, including 5km and 10km fun runs and a half-marathon. Course maps can be found here, but all of the courses involve pounding the streets of Melbourne City, passing iconic landmarks and embracing the feeling of joining thousands of other runners, as you push your endurance to the limits. Kilometre markers and drinks stations along the way will help you achieve your goal.
Dedicated cheer zones and entertainment along the course will keep you motivated, and all runners receive a medal at the end of the run, with all courses finish up at Birrarung Marr, near Federation Square. Besides the run, there will be an Event Village where you can celebrate your efforts and refresh yourself after the big race. Sole Motive – the organisers of the event – also have a twelve week training programme which caters to different levels of fitness and lengths of run, ensuring you are able to complete the goals you set yourself.
All the details for the race can be found on the Run Melbourne website. The goal is for $2 million to be raised for the Cancer Council and so far over $432,000 has already been raised. You can register yourself or your team here. More than 20,000 runners are anticipated to join this huge event so throw on your runners and become a part of it.
