If you're anything like me, you regularly shop for clothes and accessories at the Cotton On chain of stores. Made up of Cotton On, Cotton On Body, Rubi Shoes, Cotton On Kids and Typo, the chain provides plenty of fashion-forward items for everybody. But you may not realise that there is also a Cotton On Foundation , which helps to raise funds for important community and overseas projects.

One such project that the foundation supports is the Geelong Hospital Appeal - every year, a fun run, aptly named Run Geelong , is held to raise funds for this good cause. Now in its 4th year, the event attracts thousands of participants from Geelong and surrounding suburbs, with the main aim to raise money, get fit and have fun.

This year, due to the redevelopment of one of the stands at Simmonds Stadium in Kardinia Park, the course has been moved to a different location. It will now be held along the Geelong Waterfront precinct- incorporating the Eastern Park Gardens into the mix, just to add a bit of cross-country variety. With a 6km walk, 6km run and 12km run as your options for the day, you are sure to find a participation choice to suit you, and with age category and spot prizes on offer, you have even more incentive to get yourself involved.

Even if you don't consider yourself to be much of an athlete, it's worth participating in this event. Not only will you be supporting the redevelopment of the Children's Ward at the Geelong Hospital, but you'll be setting yourself up for a beneficial health and fitness challenge. It's also a fun day- while some people take Run Geelong seriously, plenty more like to dress up in costumes and make the day into a joyful event. Get together with a group of friends and see who can be the first across the line, or set yourself a challenge and see if you can beat your time from the year before.

As in previous years, each runner will have a personal time chip so that they can see where they rank within the thousands who compete in the race. Everyone who registers will also receive a special event t-shirt as a memento of the Run.

Ambassadors for Run Geelong- Geelong Cats captain Joel Selwood, netballer Madison Browne and Paralympic gold medallist Richard Colman- will all be participating in the event, as well as members of the Geelong Football Club and countless others who want to make a difference.

There will also be festivities at the finish line (at Steampacket Gardens) for all participants and their families. With market stalls, a massage tent, food and drink vendors, live music and children's entertainment, the whole family will be able to enjoy themselves at the conclusion of Run Geelong.

100% of all entry fees will go towards the Geelong Hospital Children's Ward redevelopment, so this is a great opportunity to dig out your running shoes and get involved in a fantastic fundraising event.
