Naomi Price as Adele
Simple but effective staging (image from Riverside website)
If you didn't manage to get tickets to Adele try and get to Rumour Has It. I was lucky enough to see the show at Riverside Parramatta and as you can see from the program all of Adele's big hits are covered. The show is touring until October 14 in various venues around Australia.
Naomi Price stars in this entertaining cabaret that weaves the story of Adele's life through the beautiful lyrics of her songs. The simplicity of the set design allows the audience to lose themselves in the music and the talented Naomi Price's exuberant portrayal. Naomi has a beautiful voice and she has surrounded herself with some very accomplished musicians and vocalists. Her performance was quite moving at times but was also full of comedy, parodies and audience involvement.
Rumour Has It runs for 140 minutes including a 20 minute interval. At the end of the show the performers went to the foyer to meet the audience and to sell a $15 CD. Don't attend if you are easily offended or a fan of Pauline Hanson as there is quite a bit of coarse language and some bawdy humour. The Riverside Theatre is a good venue for this type of show as it is small enough to be intimate but large enough to create atmosphere. There is plenty of parking nearby, lots of places to get a meal on Church Street and an onsite bar.
