In real life, I do discuss food exactly like how I write in my food review articles. As always my food reviews are scored only on what I've tried and the service expected of that type of establishment.

Food court staples with a cafe flair
Steak sandwich. Steak sandwich. Steak sandwich.

Located in Crown Casino's food court, Rumbas has made its mark against longstanding competitors. The counter features an array of food that is standard fare in most food courts, but Rumbas makes it just a bit more grandiose. The food feels more at home in a cafe than a counter. Its seating area is positioned with a view of the Yarra river.

The menu features standard sandwiches to order, hot drinks and juice bar. The chips are thick and they offer quite a few varieties of fried food meals with chips and/or salad. The steak sandwich menu has always been a favourite. The gourmet sandwich that has everything you would want in a burger version.

I have tried a few of the steak sandwich options. Toasted bread slices, medium-rare by choice and more than just a sandwich. The soft burger patty is full of flavour and offset beautifully by the greens. Tomato slices, onion, lettuce and the option of mushroom rounds out the steak sandwich. Sauce wise, I prefer not to have the dijon mustard as it tends to overpower the flavours that are already present. Enjoy it like the hearty meal it is.

In comparison to the other menu items, the steak sandwich is the crown jewel of Rumbas. Whatever menu items that come and go, the steak sandwiches are here to stay. One of the new very promising items is the giant sausage roll. It is as big a a cake and fills the whole plate. Slicing through it is a wonderful experience. Crunchy pastry and a meat filling with spices make it more than just an oversized sausage roll from the tuck shop.

The queues are not that long and simply show Rumbas' popularity. Most menu items are not for those looking for a light meal. There is a high turnover of the food in the glass counter, however I would not recommend the pre-prepared sandwiches in lieu of the more unique items. Like Schnitz be prepared to wait for most items as they are cooked. There's even a small window into the kitchen to view while waiting.

Rumbas offers food court staples with a cafe flair. Look for interesting twists and a hearty meal. Come for the steak sandwich and rope someone else along so you can try their meal as well.

Experience Summary:
