"Where life is colourful, where dance is our language and where salsa music fills the air, where strangers become friends and where Cuban culture lives in Brisbane" is quoted by dance group " - My Little Havana .

I must admit I have never seen sad dancers; they are always full of life, smiles on their faces and enjoying the flow of their body moving to the tempo of the music. Dance steps vary in an arrangement of beautiful moves and new friends are made, sometimes for life. Movies just as Step Up 2, Dance with Me, Street Dance and Brave Town are just a few, which incorporated salsa dance segments into their storylines.

Once a month on a Sunday at New Farm Park you can meet the group of enthusiasts who come together for Rueda in The Park. Rueda is provided free to the public by My Little Havana as they believe dancing is to be enjoyed by everyone. It is an opportunity for all the family and friends can get together for a carefree afternoon and relax in the outdoors.

I learnt my first dance steps at ten years of age, yet age has no barriers when you can feel the rhythm in your body and the yearning to move in your legs. Even if you have not danced before, it does not matter as you will be shown the steps as you go.

A tradition of My Little Havana is to request attendees to bring a plate from their country origin to share, which is a gesture of celebration as the event attracts a diverse group of people.

Why not bring your friends, family and neighbours to this fun, spirit-free social event? New Farm Park is heritage listed and can be located at 1038 Brunswick Street, New Farm. The park is also popular on weekends for family picnics or BBQs with public toilets and disabled access.

If you cannot make it to the park, My Little Havana offer dance classes each week in Bulimba, Hawthorn , East Brisbane and soon to be in Fortitude Valley as well. It is easy to see how they can offer up to 20 dance classes each week with plenty of locations to suit your place of residence. Price for classes is $10.00 per person. Keep an eye on their Facebook page where their events are posted.
