Satisfy your cravings for hot and spicy Thai
It has been a while since my husband and I have been out to dinner for Thai. Last Friday night, we had some time before our son's football game to have a bite to eat. We were in Newstead and we 'Googled' to see if there were any Thai restaurants close by and ended up at Ruean Phae Thai Restaurant.

Ruean Phae is located down a quiet street in Newstead close to Teneriffe. It is one of those places that you wouldn't want to judge the book by its cover, as the exterior was simple and looked like it has been around for a while. As my husband commented, if it has been around for a while then it must be alright to have survived.

Simple homely interior

The interior has simple, clean and a homely look with the traditional Thai 'purple' colour adorning the walls. A warm and welcoming feel.

Even though it appears like a small restaurant with seating indoors, they also had tables set up outside on the footpath, perfect for our beautiful barmy evenings thus increasing their capacity.

We were seated by pleasant and friendly staff who proceeded to take care of our orders and brought us some glasses for our wine (BYO) We choose our meals quickly, starting with one of our favourites, Fish Cakes ($8.90)

The entree was served hot and quickly to our liking. Our meals followed soon after. We had chosen Salt and Pepper Prawns ($18.90). Yummy marinated prawns which were crisply fried with salt and pepper and vegetables.

Our other choice was Pla Rad Prik ($18.90) - in other words, deep fried fish fillets with fresh chilli, tamarind Ruean Phae style sauce with vegetables. Again hot and spicy to our liking.

During the hour that we dined here, the restaurant filled up quickly with several tables reserved, so would suggest reservations on weekend nights or maybe takeaway could be an option.

Parking in the street only and given that we were in Newstead/Teneriffe, my guess that could be hard to come by on busy nights. We were lucky to find a park right out front.

We were in and out in less than an hour and left feeling very contented that we had had our Thai 'fix'. Giving us enough time to make it to our son's football game kick off. (Which they won by the way). A good night all round.
