ABOUT RTRFM RADIO In case you do not know, RTRFM is an independent, non-profit community radio station based in Perth. The name itself is a play on "aRTy Radio", and signifies the station's strong focus on local arts, music and culture
They broadcast on the 92.1 frequency, on digital and streaming online 24/7 at rtrfm.com.au.
THE BEGINNING The station began way back in 1977, and was Perth's first ever FM radio station! In those days, it was known as 6UWA and broadcast from studios on the grounds of the University of Western Australia.
Shortly after starting, Murdoch University became involved in the funding of the station and it changed its name to 6UVS. Since then they have relocated and are still at their current address in Mt Lawley.
WHAT THEY DO They classify themselves as "The Sound Alternative" music and talks programme. They provide a platform for local news and issues, with a strong focus on the arts, culture, social justice, politics and the environment.
Local music is also supported in a huge way and artists/bands details can be seen here.
THE EVENT This year RTRFM's annual CD and record sale "Hot Cakes" returns on the 12th March.

You can go on down to The Moon Cafe in Northbridge where there will be heaps of musical greats on offer. The station have collected many thousands of CDs from their music library including classics, old hits, and not so old hits.
Hosting the event will be DJs Claude Mono & Jesse Yuen.
This will be a fun event with a diverse range of music on offer using mediums from CD to vinyl discs, and their range will be huge.
There will also be the opportunity for local artists to sell their own goods direct to the public, as well as general sales!
As well as all this, the Moon Cafe will have a choice of some excellent quality/tasting food and drinks and these will be at special prices for the Event.
If you have any CD's or vinyl records that you no longer want, take them down to RTRFM before the 10th March, they will make space available for you to sell these. For details about this, please email email@example.com.
