So you want ambience do you? Well from the bearded and heavily tattooed bar-tender through to the DJ's turntable (right next to the laptop which actually pipes through the music) this place has nailed the post-modern-retro-hipster-chicster theme. In fact this bar is too cool to have only one "R" in its name (that, or they made a typo when emailing the signwriter).



Part of 's charm is the bar itself. Rrose has a sprawling pine board that resembles more a kitchen table (replete with a fruit bowl at the centre) than it does a barrier between drinker and drink server. The clientele are able to sit on either side of the bar literally rubbing shoulders with their gracious hosts.



The fruit bowl is not merely for decoration either. Rather than relying on chemically enhanced cordials and supermarket shelved tetra-juices Rrose tries something revolutionary and actually puts fresh fruit in it's cocktails. In fact the cocktail list is very impressive at this venue – you can order any of the traditional cocktails you like (margaritas, cosmopolitans or whatever else you saw on the latest 'Sex and the City' re-run) but you can also order from an extensive range of 'home-grown' cocktails, lovingly assembled by your inked up publican.



Rounding out the trendy theme is a range of boutique beers. The Four Pines Stout was a ripping drop and clearly tasted better because of the fancy glass I drank it out of.



As with most venues on Errol St space is at a premium however with a long bar, a number of tables resting against the wall and a "parlour" at the back there is enough room to entertain the throng of uber-cool who flock to Rrose on the weekend, giving the place that hubbub of voices often referred to as atmosphere.

During the week the venue exudes a more chilled vibe (i.e. there's less people) but this actually suits the place. One can sit back with a fresh glass of their favourite poison and enjoy the John Lee Hooker tunes while being able to hold a conversation without yelling into your neighbours ear. They still find room for a stag who overlooks proceedings from the far end of the bone - not the first time I've seen this .
