Personifying would be to call it the quintessential boy-next-door who thrives only on the chill pill. My rendezvous with this italian cafe - although calling it a cafe is a gross understatement, so I would refer to it just as RE - left me overdosed with happiness. What segregates this quirky little eatery from the rest of the lot is the precision in both their food and service bonded with the overly casual set up. Yes, the college cafeteria looks of RE, with a comfortable corner for everyone, is a clever disguise. Its don't-judge-a-book-by-its-cover story is better told by the dishes.

RE welcomes you with a dash of green and a splash of advertisements. Transaction of capital and cuisine occur under the dash of the thick green turf before which a pillar supports the spash of promotional posters. Towards the right is a kids play area overlooked by clusters of yellow chairs and white-top tables. There is additional seating arrangement outside as well. Wall-mount benches paired with cushions skirt most of the dining area putting an extra comfy touch to the light filled dining space. The walls are mostly covered with chalkboards listing drinks, beverages, kids' meals and confectionery plus pointers showing the customers their way around. The rest is decorated with cans and sports memorabilia - a nook is especially designated to pictures of sports stars.

Obvious from its name and judging from the brew sitting on customers' tables, coffee seemed RE's specialty. Nevertheless, seated under the canopy of dangling wires, bulbs and hanging plants at our street-view cosy corner table, we were in the mood for shakes and smoothies. My frothy chocolate milkshake arrived in a tall steel glass, though I would have preferred a glass one for the looks and a better picture. But the lovely cocoa flavour soon erased my disappointment while the mixed berry smoothie got a big thumbs-up from my husband.

Rest of our orders, apart from my dessert (which had to be chosen from the glass display box at the counter), went from the concise menu sectioned into big brekkies, eggs cooked in varying styles, all day breakfast options, cheesy melts, pasta, wraps, burgers and salads. The deceptively simple menu appeared a bit on the heavier side of pricing. But our notions soon evaporated when we saw the voluminous portions of our order.

We loved the crispy bruschetta deliciously topped with cheese, cherry tomatoes, onions and basil. Our portly omelette filled with salmon, cheese and chive had a beautiful fluffy and moist texture. With its accompaniment of toast slices and the salmon topping, it is a perfect breakfast option to begin a hectic day. The winners of the day, however, were my crab pasta and my husband's chicken schnitzel wrap. The blend of chilli, olive oil, garlic and loads of cherry tomatoes enriched the angel hair pasta with an unmistakable Italian taste. Moreover, the amount of spanner crab and the crunch of rocket leaves added a new dimension to the dish. And the quantity felt never-ending. The more I dug into it, the deeper the pasta heap went.

Meanwhile, my husband was all over his wrap. He was absolutely in love with the dish. Unable to resist we had a mouthful from each others plate. Paired with the fresh salad, the wrap laden with chicken and avocado was a darling beyond doubt. Lastly, my red velvet cupcake arrived hand-in-hand with berries and a delicious berry sauce. I floated beyond cloud nine.

Apart from our own satisfaction, the inflow of guests that we witnessed at RE was an attestation to its desirability among locals. Its strategic location in the heart of Rozelle is another advantage as is the availability of parking around the area and the accessibility by buses. Last but not the least, our waitress Talitha won over us with her heartwarming personality. If I could I would stack two additional stars for her service over the five stars that I rate RE with.

Conceptualised on a laid back style, is unquestionably a strong brew of fantastic food and great service. If you are in or around Rozelle, stop by and have a sip of relaxation and a bite of good food at RE. Buon appetito!
