Experience this botanical garden and its beauty
Established in 1818 with an area that covers approximately 14 hectares, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is filled with historic plant collections and a large number of significant trees- many dating back to the nineteenth century, making these Gardens the perfect place to visit!

There are a number of historic structures including two convict-built walls, dating back to the Garden's earliest days.

A view from the main entrance...

With around 23 garden exhibits / themes to be enjoyed, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is an absolute delight to visit... with its tranquility, open lawns with plenty of space to have that romantic picnic or family gathering...

The Japanese Gardens...One of the many theme/exhibits at the Gardens...

The Chinese Collection exhibit consists of traditional Chinese gardening practices making the careful, artistic placement of rocks a key feature of the landscape design. The Conservatory will leave you admiring the plants as you sit back and enjoy the scenery next to the sandstone fountain, while the Japanese Garden makes you feel at peace within yourself...

Other themes of the Gardens consist of The Lily Pond- which was formed in 1840!, The Sub-antarctic Plant House, The Vegie Patch that is famous for its connection with Tasmanian television gardening guru Peter Cundall, the Herb Garden, Historic Walls with its structure and unique heritage value to the Gardens, Easy Access Garden, Cactus House, The Friends' Mixed Border, Anniversary Arch, and much more themes to be enjoyed and admired...

Look at what we spotted... so adorable...

The extensive Tasmanian native collections include many rare and threatened species too, so do keep an eye out for these amazing plants and flowers.

There is a visitor centre situated in the grounds of the Botanic Garden that consists of a restaurant where you can indulge in Tasmanian delights, souvenir shop, and a gallery that is regularly changing and displays of local artists as well as a display area containing the Gardener's own exhibitions.
