The RMS is coming up very soon this year, and there are lots of reasons why I enjoy going every year with my family.
The Melbourne Show is famous for its huge selection of cool showbags; last year my boys chose 3 showbags each, all of them had lots of interesting things in it such as backpacks, caps, little games, plush toys, candy, chips and chocolate. The showbag pavillion is one of the highlights of the show because it has a large range to choose from, including Cadbury, Smiths Chips, Dora the Explorer, The Simpsons, Angry Birds, Spider-man, Spongebob, Wonka and plenty more.
The show has got a lot of rides, they are all sectioned off into their own little area; scary rides for the thrill seekers, family rides and more tame rides for the young children. There are spinning around helicopters, a crazy coaster and a huge scissors ride which throws you high into the air.
My kids enjoyed the rides, it's the only time of year they can really have a lot of run and scream with joy. My oldest son loved the crazy coaster, it went really fast and hurtled down some steep tracks. My younger boys liked the spinning swings, it's pretty high but a lot of fun.
If you don't have a lot of money to spend, the show has a few free things to do there as well, including live music, performances with magicians and daredevils and characters come out onto the stage every few hours, such as Ben 10, Elmo and Looney Tunes favourites. They also have a great big fireworks show at the end of the every night (weather permitting).
My experience at the show is always a good one, you can bring your own food so you don't have to spend a fortune buying drinks, chips and other items. My kids really love the show and we use it as a reward for them doing well at school, seeing as the show always falls on the September school holidays.
If you have family coming down from different states or overseas, I would recommend taking them to the show.
You can drive or take public transport to the Melbourne Dhowgrounds.
