I just wrote about my growing love for frozen yogurt but I'm about to turn traitor and proclaim my rekindled love for ice cream. Well, not just any run-of-the-mill ice cream. Copenhagen's delicious creations, to be exact.

There are currently four Royal Copenhagen Ice Creameryies open for business: one at Brighton, Glenelg, Henley Beach and Semaphore. I love how they've decided to only set up shop beside a beach; it's probably a great hit during the hotter months. The one in Glenelg beach is probably the smallest because it only serves ice cream. The rest have a dessert bar: things like fondue, waffles, pancakes and crepes are on the menu. I've personally never tried anything else besides the ice cream, but I've had a good look at them (craning my neck to check out the other table's dessert) and it looks decadently fantastic. You can check out their dessert menu at their adorable website over here, or check them out in person at one of their outlets.

Every time I go to Copenhagen, I always order their waffle basket. I don't think any other ice creamery place does this. You get a waffle basket (with the edges coated in chocolate dip) and your choice of 3 scoops of ice cream all for only $7.80. A pretty reasonable price for happiness, I might add.

Copenhagen has a pretty well-rounded range of flavours : from tropical, fruity sorbets to the ever-present chocolate flavours. I don't remember all their flavours but my favourite is without a doubt their Banana Fudge. I don't think there is two things that complement each other more than the fruity taste of banana and the richness of chocolate fudge-y goodness. I'm also fond of the Old Fashioned Toffee, Dutch Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream and their Devils Chocolate. You can also ask for whipped cream to top your ice cream.

So once the friendly staff hand you your choice of ice cream, you're not done yet. Now you get to visit the self-serve toppings bar! Chocolate and caramel sauce can be added to give your ice-cream that extra boost of indulgence. Rainbow sprinkles, nuts and chocolate rice are also available at the toppings bar for you to dress up your ice cream even more. The best part? Copenhagen offers everything at their topping bar for free! Yes, I kid you not, you're able to drown your ice cream in chocolate sauce if you choose to do so.

I'm getting cravings for Copenhagen by just looking at the pictures. This time round I got Banana Fudge, Dutch Chocolate Chip and Old Fashioned Toffee. Whenever the server asks which flavours I want, I always ask for Banana Fudge the last. So that way the first ice cream flavour I'll eat will be it, and it will get the maximum exposure to the caramel and chocolate sauces ( deliciousness points).

I swear, every spoonful sent me into spasms of happiness. The banana and fudge mingled flawlessly while the toffee was sweet and gooey. Because it is Dutch chocolate, the Dutch Chocolate Chip didn't have any traces of bitterness that sometimes dark chocolate contains. And halfway through eating the ice cream, it was time to slowly break apart the waffle cone. I like to use the bits of waffle pieces as a spoon to scoop up the remaining ice-cream.

Another thing I like about Copenhagen is that they make it a point to make their ice cream fresh: each store produces its own ice cream. They use solely Australian dairy products and ingredients to make their ice cream and desserts. You'll be guaranteed some high-quality ice cream; not the types that have melted a bit and then refrozen again due to transport or whatnot.

So if you're ever in one of the four beaches that has a Royal Copenhagen outlet, please do your tastebuds a favour and try their ice cream. Then head out into the sunshine to enjoy your ice cream by the beach, as Copenhagen intended it.
