The ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show is back for 2016 where the "country meets the city" at the EPIC Showgrounds. The show is run by the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society and kids around Canberra look forward to this three day event each year. The show covers both agriculture and entertainment with animal judging, petting zoos, horse riding, fashions, food, exhibitions, rides, entertainment, fireworks and of course - showbags! In 2016 the show will also have it's own Canberra Toyota Ute Muster on the Sunday evening which will be a popular new event for all ages.

With 150 attractions, 5000 animals, 450 trade displays and 1500 competitors, it is easy to see why "The Show" is a highlight of the Canberra event calendar.
An exciting crowd pleaser each year are the woodchopping events where the competition get the crowd on their feet. If you love art and crafts, wander the The Super Toyworld Crafts Expo displays and marvel and the handiwork that has taken all year to complete. Also check out the range of farm animals in the agricultural area with shearing demonstrations, alpacas, cattle exhibitors, cat competitions, dog jumping and a range of farm animals for the kids to admire. The kids will also be delighted to watch the Thoroughbred Racing Pigs or cuddle some baby animals at the ActewAGL Farmyard Nursery.

As this popular event runs over day and night, organisers advise visitors to bring sunscreen as well as wearing comfortable shoes to get you through the day. There will be rides to excite (or endure!) with kids rides costing up to $6 and most rides between $7-$10. Extreme rides cost up to $15 a ride if you dare. Sideshow Alley will test your ball throwing skills and perhaps win a prize to take home. You can purchase ride and sideshow alley tickets online through Ticketek before you arrive to save time on the day. See information here .

In the Main Arena, rest your feet and watch the horses in the Showjumping Six Bar Challenge or the Showjumping Ride and Drive Challenge where the horses race the utes to see who can have the fastest time. Watch the dogs in action at the Australian National Flyball Championships or experience the motorbike action at the ShowTime FMX Freestyle Motocross show. The ShowTime FMX team will perform a choreographed display with two riders performing tricks over 45 feet in the air while jumping 75 feet ramp to ramp.

If you have kids then the showbag pavilion will be on the list of things to do with a huge range of showbags to choose from. Prices start at $2 for a Bertie Beetle bag (for 5 chocolate Bertie Beetles) to $30 for the Frozen Bag (full value $68.90) and a variety of prices in between. See here for more information.
On Friday and Saturday evening, stay and enjoy the WIN TV Fireworks at 9:20pm to finish off your day in spectacular style.

To purchase your tickets to the Show, see the Ticketek website here or buy tickets at the gate.

Due to its popularity, the best way to get to the show is on a free ACTION bus, with buses leaving from all areas of Canberra. If you pre-purchase your ticket online, all buses are free to and from the show (see here for details) however if you choose to drive it costs $10 to park all day in the EPIC carpark.
