If you are a nature lover, an amateur botanist or anyone in need of a break from the city then the sprawling may be a good getaway. This 30 hectare area of lush green gardens boasts of more than 7500 species of plant collections. With clearly marked pathways, signboards and plant descriptions you can easily explore the entire plants display on your own.

Some of the plants you can see date to more than 100 years ago and there are some unique trees that can be seen like the 'Devils Blood' a tree that fell onto the ground in May.
The garden also houses a Palm Grove Centre located in the middle. It has a pond, palm trees and includes a garden shop, visitors information area and the Botanic gardens restaurant. There are guided tours for the nature enthusiasts that are organized at 10:30 am everyday and start from the visitors area in the Palm grove centre.

Adjacent to this centre is the Japanese walk that has a beautiful archway leading to some amazing plants and vegetation. The garden is also home to the Sydney Tropical Centre that is enclosed in an impressive glass pyramid. Entry into that enclosure costs around $3.30 for adults.

There is a rose garden located on the top end of the gardens and Government House, once the exclusive residence of the NSW Governor, lies within the perimeters of Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney too.

The gardens also offer some of the best views of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge possible, particularly at sunset. There are New Year Eve events held here as this is one of the 'best' possible locations to see the fireworks. Now that summer is here, open air outdoor cinemas at these gardens is certainly one of the most romantic ideas around. Just cuddle together on the grass, under the stars to enjoy a nice movie.

The best part of this garden is that its open all year round, except Christmas day and Good Friday, and its absolutely free.
