UPDATE: The Mint has re-opened access to the Mint's shop and café for members of the public from 10.00 am on Tuesday 9 June following advice from the ACT Government and the Chief Medical Officer. The Mint's Gallery and Factory viewing area will remain closed to the public until further notice.The Mint will be open 7 days a week, from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, with a maximum capacity of 20 visitors. One of the most fascinating places in Australia must be The Royal Australian Mint where every coin or note that passes through our hands and the hands of our visitors depicts parts of Australia's cultural history. How many trivia nights include questions of what animal appears on which coin and so forth?

Any coin collector I have ever known has been able to tell me when new coins are being minted and what will be appearing on each one! It is quite an interesting hobby for those you are avid enthusiasts. Those who like to purchase new or special coins can do so through the eShop .



The Mint opened in February 1965 and one of its first tasks was to produce new coins for the introduction of decimal currency in February of the following year. Today, The Mint has the capacity to produce two million coins per day.

The Mint runs FREE public, school and group tours at designated times throughout the week where you will learn the history of the coins as well as looking over the factory through the viewing platform. Titan is the Mint's dancing robot and his role is to pour the coins into a hopper. You also have the opportunity of minting your own legal $1.00 coin for the cost of $3.00 or purchase one from the Coin Shop. There are plenty of interactive things to do at the Mint.
