Rotary Park, Wongaling Beach
Rotary Park Wongaling Beach is a beachfront public green space on Reid Road, Wongaling Beach
It has laneways through the park as part of an Esplanade Walk in the Mission Beach
area. It also has most facilities required for beachside play such as bathrooms, picnic tables, play equipment, barbeque facilities, a closed-down wading pool (called a splash pad
), basketball half court and skate bowl. I thought it was interesting how the park was compact. It's a green space quite remarkable for a diverse range of things to do and when photographed in a series the greenery, is typically Wet Tropics, hence a great concept overall, that is, green space in a unique shade of green and lots of it. The park is important in the history
of the villages of the Mission Beach area.
It, along with Wongaling Beach gets great short online reviews and it is easy to see why. Certainly lots of things to do - especially for children, and it would be appreciated by many parents and grandparents for its wide range of activities and shade not to mention a sought-after beach adjacent, the park is on the beach.
While I say stay croc safe
, it totally depends on the weather conditions but if it's a bit anxiety-provoking, there is a lot there to take one's mind off any perceived danger and there will be other people on the beach. But in fairness, it doesn't seem all that busy a place although that could be linked to the splash pad closure. It's a topic as interesting as it is scary, but to my knowledge, the majority of croc encounters occur even further north, but they have been encountered as far south as Rockhampton in 2023. I suspect once there is a sighting they close the beach until the reptile is relocated.
Note photos courtesy of the author in 2023, displayed below relative to the article content and conclusively I think the beach, islands and greenery of the park are great reasons to at least stop off there.
