I am not one to dabble in perfume or eau de toilette and if truth be told. haven't owned one since my early 20s however I was intrigued by this Eastern suburb establishment -
Rosie Red Design Scent Studio and asked my daughter and son's girlfriend if they were interested in checking it out with me. I think that it is always more fun to learn new things with company.
The space itself is fantastic. Beautiful bottles of oils and botanics line the walls and the tables host trays of scents; many essential oils and some synthetic, grouped in families and labelled. Their website boasts that the scent library contains "more than 200 materials made to relax, rejuvenate and revive you."
We were warmly greeted by Elke who offered us a glass of bubbles or a cup of something hot. Once all the people had arrived, Elke gave a little information as to perfume making and how the evening would progress. We were encouraged to explore our sense of smell and maybe unlock a fond memory.
We then got to work creating something unique inspired by our likes and memories. Time flew and it was amazing to see which scents people gravitated towards and smell some of the final creations. It was actually difficult to decide on the final scent which would make the Eau de parfum that we would each take home, there were so many options. Elke was patient and positive and had the knack to suggest scents to add or remove in order to alter and perhaps better the final scent.
It was relaxing and fun. Elke appeared mid-way through the evening with brownies and was there to give her opinion and assistance to anyone who wanted it throughout the evening.
When you were finally happy with your scent, you mixed the ratios to make a beautiful small bottle of Eau de parfum unique to you.
This experience was something that I would not have necessarily gone looking for but thoroughly enjoyed as did my companions. I would recommend this for a group of friends or even to go on your own.
You can choose from the perfume mixology experience at $129 per person or the candle-making workshop at $59 per person. Both events include a complimentary drink and either a homemade candle or bottle of perfume.
