The festival hotspot is the brainchild of Shaun Pattinson, who chose to close his celebrated bar, 'Cushdy,' after 5 years of success and acclaim in late 2013. At the time Pattinson noted he wanted a fresh start.
With Roses & Rye, Pattinson has left the cocktail lounge scene behind and has embraced the informal 'dive bar' - where beer and whiskey flow and practically anything goes - "we're here for a good time, not a long time" so says the motto.
The eclectic decor is an unabashed celebration of Americana and popular culture and each night there are bar specials and theme nights; a few regular highlights include "Band T-Shirt Tuesday"; where you can don your favourite band t-shirt and get $2 off all drinks (the more embarrassing the t-shirt, the better) and 'Wizard Stick Wednesday" - an unusual drinking game which requires its players to stand tall!
Come down to Roses & Rye after the checking out the Fringe events each evening; take a seat on the couch and catch a flick; have a game of ping-pong or darts between drinks; play your favourite tune on the jukebox; or just have one of their famous 'Bourbon Milkshakes'.
