I had to laugh in Rosebergs recently. A young trendsetter came waltzing in with her group of admirers in tow. She wanted to try on a gorgeous pair of boots she had spied in the window.

The sale's assistant quickly glanced down at the girl's feet and said "Our sizes start at size 10. We specialise in larger size shoes." The girl snorted and said "We'll I'll just shuffle my size 7 feet out of here then."

This story highlights the main points in this story. First this is a shoe shop with fashionable shoes for even the trendiest and secondly it is specifically for those with larger sized feet.

No size 7's allowed.

I'd arrived tentatively with my daughter, who is in her 20s, thinking the sizes might be right but I was a bit worried the shoes might be a bit fuddyduddy.

In the back of my mind I had always associated Rosenbergs with comfort shoes. Nothing wrong with comfort shoes mind you. I have my fair share. In fact in life it pays if you can get around.

But if I dream about shoes they are red with heels, little bows and ribbons and not shoes with thick soles and room for orthotics.

What really surprised me was that yes Rosenbergs sells a few comfort shoes but they are no longer just known for these.

In fact many years ago they changed their policy to one where they simply stock large sized 10-14 for women and also for men (sizes 12-18). In fact they sell Australia's best range of large sizes.

The sales assistants are tall and model-like and maybe they get a discount if they work there as they were certainly sporting some of Rosenberg's gorgeous shoes.

In fact most of the shoes in the shop are trendy. Gorgeous boots (short and long) Dr Martens, heeled party shoes and strappy little sandals for summer.

My daughter bought the shoes I had been daydreaming about which were red and velvety with bows and ruffles and high heels.

For someone who often struggles to find shoes that will fit her she managed to come out with four pairs including a gorgeous pair of lace-up boots.

Rosenbergs sell a huge range of shoes including Converse, Sketches, Josef Seibel and more. See their website for the huge range of brands.

The shop is also gorgeous as it was built in 1903 and is so old-worldy. It has always been owned by the same family. There is even a display of antique shoes in the window.

So there we go. Those of us with bigger sized feet can find fashionable footwear.

I must give this a try, I have such trouble getting boots that fit my calves.

Lots of places cater for extra big or wide feet, but no-one sells anything for small feet. And no, children's shoes do NOT fit, they are the wrong shape (and ugly). I can't buy anything for my size 4 narrow feet, anywhere.
