The Rosebud Kite Festival at the Rosebud Foreshore Jetty on Jetty Rd, Rosebud on Sunday 10 March 2019 from 11am to 5pm is a HUGE deal! There is something undoubtedly very special about this event that's FREE, fun for the whole family and sets your spirits soaring along with the kites, making for a fun day out. Throw caution to the wind, set those electronics aside, and come along for a day of real entertainment.

The kites will fly when the wind blows at this much-loved wind-powered festival that features the latest designs and displays from international kite-flying professionals. Whales, penguins, crabs and dragons will take flight, and there's fun to be had identifying each of the Maxi kites. The Australian-themed delta kites and animated designer kites are a sight to see, with a lot of WOW factor attached.

Though the main activity of the day is kite flying, there'll also be kite making workshops, kite flying competitions, and demonstration flying of enormous kites. Children's activities include face painting, circus workshop, craft activities, roving clowns, magicians, kiddies carnival, animal farm and more. Musicians will entertain the crowd from a large stage, making for a fabulous family day out with something for everyone. While you're there, why not experience Rosebud like a local and check out the best retail and dining promotions and other special offers, including upcoming local events with Rosebud By The Bay .

This is one of the best day's out in the family summer calendar, and bonus that it's free. A kite event that has lasted 16 years is saying something. It's an extraordinary kite flying fiesta celebrating the art of the kite on the foreshore with kite flyers from all persuasions gracing the skies with their colourful creations. Don't miss it! Pack a picnic, a rug or folding chairs; don't forget the sunscreen, settle back and enjoy the skyline show. There's many food vans for tasty treats, but being next to Rosebud's new Foreshore Adventure Playground with BBQ facilities, you can bring your own bbq in an area filled with fun-filled space for the kiddies to play.

Head to the website for the program of events that'll unfold for the day. The main stage will run for the duration of the event with changeover of musicians starting with The Music Industry at 11, The Stokers at 12, Suga Tree at 1, Heidi Luckhurst at 2 and Andy Phillips & Cadillac Walk at 4pm. Spiff Daddy will also occupy the main stage during the day with his antics and juggling skills in comic pantomime. He'll be introducing you to a program of talented emerging artists and much loved local outfits. The Spukes Ukulele Group will be near the stage, strumming their ukuleles, engaging you to float away with their beautiful sound.

The Yellow Circus Tent has circus play throughout the day as well with The Funky Monkeys Circus Duo at 12.30pm, Global Myths Storytelling at 2 and Kazzam Magic Show at 4pm. Meet Tubby the Robot and his pet fish Flapper, a groundbreaking animatronic puppet; waterproof, wireless and very friendly, as they stroll through the festival site.Give Flapper a pat as he travels in a water-filled fish mongers trolley. If you're after something a little more jaw breaking, visit the SES & CFA Vehicles and Education Information sector with your soft drink can and crush them with the Jaws of Life at this hourly activity. If you're after Kites for Kids with Jo Baker for $7, it's under the marquee where kids can learn to craft their own and let their creativity and imagination soar.

Adrenalin pumping Carnival Rides are a mainstay for unforgettable family fun so step right up, strap in and say wheeeee! For a gentler activity, there's the Animal Farm Rain Hayne and Shine mobile farm for a hands-on experience with a large variety of friendly farm animals. Watch out for the Tall Lifeguards, but I don't think you need to worry about missing them as they're head and shoulders above the rest at 8' feet tall! The performers are actors and comedians, so they're not just there to look terrific, but are able to engage with you in witty repartee' as well. As you can see, there's more than just kites at this event, though the kites do have a strong pull for fun and being lost amongst the skies; so come along and get lost as you engage in an activity that has stood the test of time.
