It was Tuesday, our weekly family dinner time, and instead of having it at the in-laws, we decided to be creative and go for Mexican at Rosa Mexicano in Kenmore. It was probably the only restaurant in Kenmore that we hadn't overdosed on, but that wasn't the reason why we decided to go there. It was the vibrant pink, green and yellow Rosa Mexicano sign which looked fun and inviting almost promising a great time beyond the doors. There had been a few restaurants/cafes in its place, but they were never as big a hit with the locals as Rosa.

As we opened up the big wooden doors, the yellow and orange walls with colourful décor immediately made us feel like we were in another place – a lively, happy place where families, friends, and couples come to dine. This immediately lifted our spirits on a dark, cold winter night and the warm colours in the restaurant made us warm too. Everything in this place was so colourful; they had sombreros on the walls, cute little Mexican men as toothpick holders, bright paintings to match, and even their water and wine glasses were cool and funky. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and were shown our seats - a booth with hot pink seats. It was great as the nine of us could all snuggle together, except when you had to climb over everyone to get to the bathroom.

We were really impressed with the fit out of Rosa, but it didn't stop there. The food was fabulous! They had soft tacos, hard tacos, fish tacos, taquitos, quesadillas, nachos - you name it. It was really hard for us to decide which one we really wanted, especially when we wanted to try everything. Eventually, I settled with Beef Fajitas, which was a combination of beef, capsicum, onion, chillies and bacon in a sizzling hot cast iron plate served with tortillas, sour cream, guacamole and salsa. Sounds like a feast right? Well, it was. What was also great about it was that you could eat it any way you want. You can make tortillas, or eat it by itself with salsa. Whatever, however. And the awesome cast iron plate kept the food hot throughout my meal. Genius idea! Another meal that looked scrumptious was the chicken nachos. It came in a huge tortilla basket with corn chips, frijoles, red sauce, shallots, melted cheese, sour cream and guacamole. I had the pleasure of finishing the tortilla basket - YUM. Other things we ordered were the Mexican Chimichanga, the Gringo Combo, the Aztec Combo and a few of us ordered the Chicken Fijitas. Although I didn't get to taste every one of those meals, I did get testimonials from everyone afterwards and they were all positive.

I had a great time with my family at Rosa Mexicano. It wasn't just the food though. It was the atmosphere, the colourful décor, the friendly waitresses, the hot pink seats - you know, all the little things that make your dining experience a positive one. We had an absolute feast and had no room for dessert. Oh well, there's always next time. It was a pity that they didn't have coffee.
Nevertheless, we all had a really lovely evening.

If you've never had a Rosa experience, I highly recommend it. It is extremely family orientated and caters for kids as well. They have mini meals, big meals, medium meals, spicy meals. Whatever Mexican meal you may feel like, I'm sure Rosa has it. So next time you're stuck looking for a restaurant, try Rosa Mexicano.
