For Beer, Wine and Food Or just a break from the weather
Did you know that Darwin's population is the most youthful of all the Australian cities? This translates to there being a large choice of pubs, wine bars and nightclubs for your consideration. During a recent trip north to escape the winter chill I discovered that in Darwin City alone there are over 30 hotels and wine bars.
If you too are planning a trip to the Top End over winter here is one of my top finds to put on your To Do List :
Rorkes Hotel - Beer Wine Food is situated at 22 Smith Street, Darwin, and is located at the waterfront end of the Smith Street Mall, across the road from the Visitor Information Centre. It is a popular meeting place for both locals and tourists and is also family friendly. The indoor bar and meals area is relaxed with a definite classy feel, and the rooftop bar allows you to catch the breeze whilst enjoying your refreshing beverage of choice.
The menu is contemporary with a few classics thrown in for good measure. We enjoyed a shared plate as we were still acclimatising and the most important need was to replenish fluids after a morning spent playing tourist in the sun. Believe me, the winter sun in Darwin takes its toll so don't travel anywhere without water, even if only to the local shopping centre.
The Squeeze had great fun organising refreshments. You see, at Rorkes you have the option to purchase a card at the bar and loading it with an amount of money, just like loading your prepaid mobile phone. You can then use this card to pour your own specialist beers or ciders at either end of the establishment. Not only that, but if you don't utilise all the funds on your card you can come back any time to do so.
