There is nothing like summer in NYC and one of the best traditions is the
Rooftop Films Summer Series . From May 13 to August 15, 2011 there will be new, independent films at some amazing locations-turned-movie theaters all across the city.
Some of the venues at which you can see films that are part of the Rooftop Films Summer Series include Brooklyn Tech in Fort Greene, Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City and the Open Road Rooftop on Grand Street in the Lower East Side. It's a chance to experience brilliant films in an unconventional way while surrounding yourself with awesome people.
There's a wide array of films with something to appeal to almost everyone including "The Pursuit of Love," "No Matter What," and "The City Dark."
There is also "
Dark Toons ," which is a collection of shorts depicting evil animation which will show at Solar One. Check the restrictions to find out what happens at each specific location in case of rain.
Due to limited seating, bring a blanket in case you can't get a chair. Tickets are $10 each and also include live music in addition to the film, and on many nights, admission to an after party. When you purchase tickets, there's an option to make a monetary contribution in addition to your ticket price. Rooftop Films is a non-profit, so the donation helps to go toward running the organization.
