A glimpse of the rooftop bar at the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel

Rooftop bars are not just popular in the summer months, they are also in vogue in the cooler weather. On a really cold Friday or Saturday night, it is okay to wear a trendy coat while enjoying the cool breeze at one of these top rooftop bars in Sydney.

1. Pyrmont Bridge Hotel

Right across the road from the Harbourside Shopping Centre and the monorail station at Darling Harbour, you will find yourself at one of Pyrmont's best watering holes. I love the views of Sydney Harbour and it is great that you can help yourself to as much water as you need. I love the friendly service and the homely type of vibe. You would be forgiven for thinking that you are partying on the balcony at a friend's apartment nearby. The perfect excuse if you cannot be bothered walking to the nearby casino for a drink. Style and the right catch up environment if you are in the mood for a quality rooftop bar experience in Sydney.

2. Hunky Dory Social Club

It will be a real risk ranking this establishment second to the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel in being a best rooftop bar in Sydney, but the backdrop is perfect and it is understandable that many young Sydney couples choose to celebrate their engagement parties here. Great views of Oxford Street are enjoyed here. You must be in the mood for dancing despite the lack of spacious dancing spaces. It feels like your living in New York when you have a night out on the town at this establishment. The journey to the roof as well as at the rooftop is stunning.

3. ZanziBar Newtown

A three level bar, you either love it or you don't. Thankfully many people like it. At Newtown, you will meet some interesting characters and artists. The walls are musically decorated, and it is easy to reward yourself with a great cocktail after (what seems to be like) climbing many flights of stairs to head towards holy ground - hooray for the roof. Head here on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, between 6pm and 8pm, for cheap $9 cocktails with indulgent (yet interesting) flavours. The same deal applies on weekends from 1pm-3pm.

4. East Village Hotel

Where the historical meets the modern. Tastefully furnished and fitted out. A great place to chill out if you are every in the Darlinghurst area. Great place to go to once in a while, otherwise the novelty might soon begin to wear off. Trivia nights are held on Tuesday nights and salsa dancing on a Wednesday nights. This is when it is really worth coming to the rooftop of this establishment.
