Do you have a budding little angler in your household? Is your time spent untangling lines, trying to avoid discarded fishing rods and picking up pieces of tackle off the floor? Are there fish identification charts plastered all over the walls? Is the worm population in your garden reaching critical levels?
If one or more of the above scenarios are the norm in your home, then chances are that you'll be heading to the Ron Nelson Memorial Junior Fishing Clinic on Sunday 28 October. To be held at Seagull Paddock in North Geelong (just off Melbourne Road and opposite Ford Motor Company), the Fishing Clinic will be the place to go for all young people between the ages of 2 and 16 years, who have the fishing gene in their blood.
Between 9am and 1pm, junior fishing enthusiasts will be able to cast their lines and hopefully catch one of the many trout that will be swimming through the waters of the lake. There will be various encouragement awards on offer, as well as prizes for the heaviest trout caught (for different age and gender categories).
While entry is free, all anglers who want to be involved must register. You will also have to provide your own bait, rod and reel. As with any strenuous activity, all of that fishing is sure to work up an appetite, so there will be a sausage sizzle lunch at the conclusion of the clinic. This will give everybody the chance to mingle and chat about the great catches of the day, before heading home to fry or grill their caught trout for dinner.
The Association of Geelong & District Angling Clubs host this annual event (which is run in conjunction with Children's Week), and it promises to be a fantastic experience for all young fishing fanatics.
